The River Arun is a tidal river in Sussex, which is a good place for canoeing.
Being tidal, planning is necessary, as the tides here move quickly and cannot easily be paddled against.
Above the confluence with the Rother, half a mile upstream from Pulborough, the effect of the tide is less, so canoeing is possible in most conditions.
The section above Stopham is particularly beautiful, and is one of the nicest bits of river for canoeing in southern England. Equally, the section between Arundel and Amberley, where the River Arun cuts through the South Downs, is quite spectacular and unique in this part of the world.
