Paddle Point

Parking in this seasonal Pay and Display carpark (with toilet block) you can paddle south on Conniston water, avoiding the reed beds, which are a site of specicial scientific interest. The River Crake is a easy grade II most of the trip, with a short grade 3 rapid above Spark Bridge. The banks on both sides here are privately owned and should not be used for inspection; portage is not an option. The whole trip is a gentle run through tree lined countryside, with the occasional wier and low bridge to keep you on your toes.

I heard stories of whitewater novices on this run; having only run this once in low water, I'm not sure I'd take a group of WW novices, but its certainly a good stepping stone to some of the more serious rivers in the area.

This river is covered by an agreed access arrangement - please paddle only between 1st November and the end of March; egress is either at Spark Bridge on the village green, or at Greenodd, both of which have pubs :-)
