This is the normal start location for the upper Lugg There is a large layby on the south side of the bridge access to the water is on the left bank downstream of the bridge

Shirley Farm weir, upper lye

Shirley farm weir, there is a rocky fall straight ahead, if you take the right channel you will come to the weir in 200 metres. The weir is not a practical proposition as it has a rocky flow breaker at the foot. BEST ROUTE: over the rocky fall straight ahead & down the small stream to join the main river just below the weir.

On a left hand bend, 1 metre drop over a gentle slope.
This weir has a flume in the centre running from left to right and is a good fun shoot.

A slanting rock weir runnable in normal water levels, 1.5 metres drop over an easy slope. Always inspect in high water, large tow back. This weir also has a flume approx 5 metres from the right end running from right to left, this is a very good fun shoot. portage is River left

access point at Mortimers cross

A good launch point for a run to Leominster or if coming down from Knisham park in the layby west of river and access downstream left of bridge

Kingsland weir

stone weir runnable at normal water levels

Lugg Green Access

Mind the noise and where you park. The next three weirs must be carefully inspected, they were built in 1976 with a central fish ladder which is a series of boxes which may catch nose of kayak, the sides have significant tow back in high water.

Do not attempt central fish ladder, it is a series of boxes which could catch kayak nose. Shoot either side in low/med water only, portage in high water.

Same as previous weir but much larger and so is not advisable even in med/high water.

Gilberts farm weir

A concrete slot weir, same design as previous two weirs but is smaller, shoot sides with support.

weir old Victorian, easy slope.

Weir, Victorian, easy slope.

Weir, Victorian, easy slope.

Beware! Weirs, these are two new weirs side by side, the left weir carries water into the "Main Ditch" a flood protection culvert which joins the river Lugg in half a mile. This weir is very narrow with a fierce tow back, do not attempt. The main weir is unshootable due to anti-scour teeth at the foot. Portage right bank. and carry on down Kenwater which goes through the middle of Leominster.
